MECU recognizes the importance of our responsibility in protecting our members' private information. This Privacy Statement is intended to inform you of how we will treat information that you provide to us through the Credit Union's web site. Any use of www.mecunet.org constitutes your consent to this Statement. We reserve the right to change this Statement at any time.
The companies with whom we share information have agreements with us and act on behalf of MECU. As a member, you can be confident that MECU protects your financial privacy. This notice explains how we collect, use and safeguard your personal financial information.
Information We Collect and Disclose About You We collect nonpublic personal information about you from the following sources: - Information we receive from you on membership and loan applications and other forms;
- Information about your transactions with us or others;
- Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency;
- Information obtained when verifying the information you provide on an application or other forms, such as from your current or past employers or from other institutions where you conduct financial transactions.
We may disclose information we collect about you under circumstances as permitted or required by law. These disclosures typically include information to process transactions on your behalf, conduct the operations of the Credit Union, follow your instructions as you authorize, or protect the security of our financial records.
We may also disclose all of the information we collect, as described above, to companies that perform marketing or other services on our behalf or to other financial institutions with whom we have joint marketing agreements. To protect our members' privacy, we only work with companies that agree to maintain strong confidentiality protections and limit the use of information we provide. If you terminate your membership with MECU, we will not share information we have collected about you, except as permitted or required by law.
How We Protect Your Information We restrict access to non-public personal information about you to those employees who have a specific business purpose in utilizing your data. Our employees are trained in the importance of maintaining confidentiality and member privacy. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal and state regulations to safeguard your non-public personal information.
Web Site Browsing – MECU does not collect personal identifying information about visitors to www.mecunet.org. Our servers collect only standard non-identifying information, such as date and time visited, IP address, city, state and country. This information is used to compile standard statistics on site usage.
E-mail – Various parts of www.mecunet.org allow you to submit information to us via e-mail. When you send e-mail to the Credit Union, we will retain the content of the e-mail and your e-mail address for our records.
Use of E-Mailed Information – The Credit Union will use personal information provided to us via e-mail as appropriate in the normal course of our business to provide the products and services that you request. We will not disclose information to third parties (excluding Credit Union affiliates) concerning your account with us, except: (a) when such disclosure is necessary to complete the transactions you request; (b) to verify the existence and condition of your account for a third party (such as a credit bureau) as is permitted by law; (c) to comply with government agencies or court orders; or (d) when you give us your written permission.
